My background:
I have 30 years of newspaper and public relations experience in the Chippewa Valley. I know this beautiful area and I know the media outlets that cover it.
I worked for 16 years as an editor at the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, serving first as city editor and then managing editor. With the help of my talented colleagues, we turned the Leader-Telegram into an award-winning newspaper that attracted readers and served the community.
For almost 15 years I served as UW-Stout’s Executive Director of Communications and External Relations. I developed a University Communications Department that raised the profile of UW-Stout, Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University, through an aggressive strategy that harnessed the impact of the local media.
Before coming to Eau Claire in 1990, I worked for 10 years as a reporter in Madison for the Wisconsin State Journal, covering local government and politics.
I have a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications from UW-Madison.
I live on the north side of Eau Claire with my wife, Suzanne Kittelson, and our two cats, Bruce and Milo. Our two adult sons, David and Daniel, also live in Eau Claire.
Please give me a call or email me and we will discuss you needs and what Mell Communications can do for your organization or business.
